Biella

Where: City Center (where we ate), Landmark Mall, The Mall

When: Fridays and Saturdays: 9.30 AM-12 PM

What’s on the menu: A wide selection including pancakes, french toasts, eggs, beef bacon, bread baskets and fruit platters. They all range from QR 35 to QR 47.

What we ate:

Hani: I had “The Biella Breakfast”  (QR 47) and going by the name, one would think, this is the grandest offering they have and it probably is. The taste is essentially “homemade”. You know which other place had that homemade taste - Patatas.
We interrupt this review to introduce a new definition!

home·made/ˈhoʊmˈmeɪd/ [hohm-meyd]

 adjective

1.
made or prepared at home, locally, or by the maker’s own efforts: The restaurant’s pastry is homemade. Breakfast at the farmhouse always meant homemade preserves.
2.
made in one’s own country; domestic: I prefer a homemade car to one of those foreign models.
3.
made, contrived, or assembled by oneself; not professionally made or done; amateurish: the plain look of homemade furniture.

4. [Dine At Dawn Entry]

food served in restaurants which tastes like it could be made at home with little effort.

So I’m referring to our own definition [4] here.

The City Centre branch has a good location and the view looks out to the main street and the famed West-Bay high rises. I like their color scheme, light brown, yellow and their shade of blue.

Kavi: I ordered a Milano which consists of scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. Not being too fond of sea food as breakfast, I asked for the salmon to be replaced. I got sauteed mushrooms instead. In hindsight (as you can tell, this happens to me A LOT), replacing mushrooms for salmon sounds like a raw deal (no pun there). I also ordered a pineapple juice which was frothy and yummy.

The food on the other hand… For the price that we were paying (QR 35), the quantity was paltry. The taste wasn’t bad, as such, but it didn’t justify the money we were paying. Biella’s a great restaurant for lunch and dinner. I can’t praise their pasta enough; the quantity’s so huge I have to sadly leave a little behind on my plate always. I only wish they would try to bring in that same quality (and quantity) to their breakfast offering.

Hani’s Verdict: Feeling like paying for food you can make at home?

Kavi’s Verdict: Biffsquiggle
